Tornatore’s Etna Rosso Riserva is a Sicilian red wine that originates on the northern slopes of Mount Etna, in the town of Castiglione di Sicilia. Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio grapes are harvested in mid-October and then vinified in wooden vats, where they macerate for 2 weeks. Once racked, the wine ages in French oak barrels for 3 years and concludes after this period in concrete tanks, where it remains for an additional 6 months. Deep ruby red in color, the nose is expressed with aromas of cherry, morello cherry, mulberry and caper. The sip is fresh and crisp, with great flavor and a long finish. It pairs well with stewed and roasted red meats and game and aged cheeses.

Vinification

Our reserve comes from the oldest estate vineyards that we call relics. Small terraces supported by ancient walls, which we have restored, are home here and there to vines with an extraordinary lifespan, which we look after with care and respect. The grapes, a few bunches, two three per plant, are vinified in wooden vats where they macerate for about two weeks. Upon racking, the resulting wine remains to decant, until it clarifies, in concrete tanks before being racked into 25-hl French oak barrels. From this point on, a long journey of refinement begins. Only after 3 years of aging in the same barrel is the wine racked into concrete tanks for another six months before bottling. At this point for another six months we await him by evaluating his evolution. For us, this product represents the perfect synthesis of Etna’s magnetism where it takes a lot of patience and time to do well.
